DEVELOPING SELF AND OTHERS

Developing self and others relates to the ongoing development and learning for yourself, others and also the organisation as a whole. It is about looking for gaps in your skills and knowledge and making plans to overcome these gaps and taking responsibility for your own development and fostering an environment to further the professional and personal development of all those around you.

Interview Questions:

  • Tell us about a time when you enabled a team member to develop a new skill. 
  • Describe a time when you helped a colleague improve their work effectiveness.
  • Give me an example of a time when you managed poor performance in your team. What did you do?
  • Describe a time when you overcame a weakness.
  • Can you describe a time when you have had to deal with poor performance and the approach you took to resolve it.
  • Describe a situation when you demonstrated this competency.
  • Describe a situation where you used your mentoring skills to get the very best performance from someone.

Effective / Positive Behaviours Indicators

  • Motivate team members to develop learning and career plans and provides coaching, counselling and mentoring to help. 
  • Support all colleagues developmental plans, recognising how a diversity of experience/background can help to build an inclusive team culture. 
  • Identify capability gaps in yourself and your team and make plans of how to overcome these.
  • Reflect on your own work, continuously seek and act on feedback to improve your own and the wider team’s performance.
  • Take time to coach, mentor and develop other colleagues to support succession planning.
  • Consider the contributions of all team members and delegate work to aid the learning and development of all.
  • Ensure development objectives are set and achieved to address any gaps and enable the delivery of current and future work.
  • Promote inclusiveness by respecting different personal needs in the team and use these to develop others.
