Seeing the big picture – Winning Example:
Situation:
In my role as counter fraud checking service (CFCS) project officer at the Cabinet Office. I was tasked to plan and develop the summer work programme (SWP) which went very well and formed the strategy of the CFCS.
Task:
Questions had been raised at senior levels how the CFCS fits within the strategic goals of the Cabinet Office.
I was tasked to plan and develop the SWP ensuring that the project fitted within the strategic goals of the Cabinet Office. I understood that the department’s strategy was to increase data sharing with the public and private sectors to combat fraud.
Action:
I started by clarifying the scope of the SWP and deadline for completion.
I then began researching and gathering information and statistics from a wide range of sources both internal and external from our stakeholders (DWP, HMRC, Insurance and Banking sectors).
I recognised that considering the bigger picture, the main objective in this instance was to ensure the CFCS focused on fraud prevention, the targeting of high-risk areas, and tangible monetised benefits as a priority. I asked stakeholders to look into these areas in my meetings, I had a clear understanding of where the CFCS fitted within the Government’s wider anti-fraud strategy which helped me to influence stakeholders to focus on these areas for the SWP.
Result:
The result from my approach was that I had a SWP supported by all stakeholders that I presented to the programme board which was extremely well received and incorporated into the strategy of the CFCS.
