Seeing the Big Picture – Winning Answer (5th Example)

Recently, I led a training session for my team covering an aspect of quantitative research (how to check survey data) which was used to train members of the wider company.

The immediate task was to use my quantitative experience to compile the training, but I understood this was part of wider strategic drivers. Questions had been raised at the senior level as to how we can improve our quantitative research offerings and make junior researchers with little quantitative experience feel more comfortable on these projects. This in turn would instil confidence in our client relationships that we provide the best service possible.

I started by thinking about the different aspects of training I would need to cover, for example, why checks are important to do, explaining common terminology, as well as explaining the process of checking survey data itself. I utilised existing quantitative knowledge within the company, including speaking to our quantitative director, to ensure I covered everything needed to make my training as effective as possible. I then practiced my presentation before the training to ensure it ran smoothly, and held a question and answer session afterwards, to check that everyone understood the topic, and if they had further questions.

As a result, my training was well received, and I was asked to present to other teams within the company. Being able to impart my quantitative knowledge and know it was having a positive impact on the staff, and wider company was a great learning experience.
