Communicating and Influencing – Winning Answer (SEO/G7 4th Example)

In a recent training session, I took the lead in explaining the process of survey data checking for researchers unfamiliar with quantitative research. The purpose was clear—to equip researchers with little quantitative research experience with the skills they needed and enhance their overall understanding and confidence.

Recognizing the potential apprehension of this audience, I approached the task with empathy to this. My aim was to create training that was not only informative but also engaging, ensuring clarity throughout. To achieve this, I meticulously planned the session, breaking down the purpose of the training, clarifying common terminology, and elucidating the survey data-checking process itself.

Acknowledging the diversity in our team’s working styles, I crafted examples of both good and bad survey data, catering to visual learners and ensuring the content resonated with everyone. To maximize understanding, I consulted with our quantitative director, seeking input on language and explanations. Complex terminology was simplified to ensure accessibility.

During the training, I remained attentive to signs of confusion and periodically paused for questions to gauge understanding. Understanding that some might hesitate to ask questions, I cultivated a supportive atmosphere with positive body language and constructive responses. My goal was not just to convey information but to foster a positive outlook on quantitative research within the team.

The positive reception of the training was evident, leading to requests to present it to other teams. This not only showcased its impact but also underscored my effectiveness as a communicator within the company.
