Question:
Tell me about a situation or task where you delivered an exceptional result.
Situation / Introduction
As project officer with the Cabinet Office working on the Counter Fraud Checking Service (CFCS) I overcame significant obstacles to successfully deliver for a tight deadline which was for all stakeholders (HMRC, DWP, Insurance, and Banking sectors) to have their findings from CFCS pilots to be incorporated into a Business Case to gain Ministerial approval to continue.
Task / Problem
I was informed at short notice that HMRC would not have complete results for the deadline.
Action
As project officer, I kept myself up to speed on stakeholders progress. I held frequent meetings with stakeholders to keep me updated on their pilots and alert me of any issues. In these meetings, HMRC informed they were behind schedule and would not have complete results on time. On hearing this, I informed the senior project officer and promptly called an emergency meeting with HMRC. At the meeting, I used my initiative to negotiate with HMRC to produce a value statement for the agreed deadline which would include an outline of emerging findings and estimates. This estimate would be used for the Business Case with a note informing that final results were to shortly follow.
Result
Despite last-minute obstacles, the outcome of my approach was that the OBC was successfully delivered on time with positive saving results from all stakeholders including HMRC. The Minister was impressed with the Business Case which secured approval for the CFCS to continue. I also got recognition from senior management for managing to meet the deadline which I am very proud of.
